Toxic Tour in Southwest Philly to Educate on Refinery Impacts

As you know, we have been talking for the last couple months about the pollution created by the Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) refinery in Southwest Philadelphia. If you live around the refinery you already know the negative health impacts it has on our friends here. According to a 2014 EPA study, 71 percent of residents who live within a mile of the refinery are people of color and are at a higher risk for respiratory and circulatory disease. The same study found that 22 percent of kids in Philly suffer from asthma, 10 points above the national average.

As they talk about expanding their operations, our friends and families are left in the crossfire and completely ignored. Join us this Saturday, October 24th, @ 4:00pm at 63rd and Lindbergh Avenue to take a tour over the Passyunk Bridge in Southwest Philadelphia where an environmental engineer and public health expert will join us to educate us on what the refinery is actually doing. We will learn what individual pieces of equipment in the refinery do, what kind of toxic air emissions they are spreading across our city, and how these air emissions are poisoning our families.

If you've always wondered what the smoke is coming out of those refinery smoke stacks, Saturday, October 24th is a great day to get fully educated on how corporations are poisoning our families and children.

We will be meeting at 63rd and Lindbergh Avenue at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 then heading over the Passyunk Bridge.
